Vintage Shawnee Pottery Buddha / Hotei / Putai Planter. USA 524. Nice Condition! More of a good luck than a religious figure, Hotei (aka Putai) lived in China around 900 AD and was known for his generosity, among other things. After his death, villagers found a poem in which he described himself as an incarnation of Maitreya, the future Buddha, thus linking himself with Buddhism. Planter is about 6” tall and has cheerful vibrant glaze colors. No chips, cracks, or repairs.
