Ethiopian Gurade Sword Saber Sabre - Wilkinson Blade Menelik II George V 1910-13

An Ethiopian gurade sabre with a Wilkinson import blade. Amharic script dates it to the reign of Emperor Menelik II so 1910-13, as the Wilkinson trademark says "Swordmaker to HM King George V." The “Paget” blade has uniform patina, some light pitting near period-sharpened edge, and is firm in hilt. Leather scabbard has ruptured at bottom but blade seats firmly. Blade is anchored in hilt by bronze pommel cap which can be turned. Organic hilt is in very nice condition. Sword weighs 1 lb 12 oz and blade is 30.5 inches in length. The last pic shows a period Wilkinson catalogue advert of sword blades made for Ethiopia.
